Indians Lose in 2nd OT Heartbreaker

After a hard-fought match-up against the #8-seeded UCLA Bruins, the men’s soccer team came up just short in their quest to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. After 90 minutes of play, the game stood tied at 1-1. Dartmouth and UCLA battled it out inconclusively through two ten-minute overtime sudden death periods when, 8 seconds before the final whistle, UCLA midfielder Eder Arreola knocked it in off a throw-in. Another 8 seconds, and Dartmouth would have had the chance to take it to a penalty shootout.

It’s too bad. Nevertheless, a tremendous accomplishment for this year’s Indian squad to get as far as it did. And if you have to lose, best to lose to as good a team as UCLA, and in such a hard-fought fashion as tonight. Big kudos to the Indians’ Bryan Giudicelli for the tying goal he scored early in the second half. Well done gents, and wah-hoo-wah!
