GSA to GSX — Op-Ed in the Daily D

Explaining the rationale for changing the name of the GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) to GSX (Gender Sexuality XYZ).

I understand that the distinction between sex and gender can be critical, but “studies consistently show that the biological and genetic differences between the sexes are so small that, if we were to look at them from a truly objective perspective, we might wonder why the classification of male and female even exists?” Really?

I don’t really have a problem with the article — I mean, a GSA is a valuable institution to have on campus, regardless of what it wants to call itself — but I just wanted to point it out. And the following line amused to no end this morning over breakfast: “Biology doesn’t give Johnny a natural aversion to pink, nor does it give Sweet Dude ‘09 a natural inclination towards misogyny — society does.” Ouch, Sweet Dude ’09.
