Student Body President responds

I e-mailed Janos Marton ’04 and asked him if the rumor is true.

His response:

“Well, they [the Student Assembly] wont ‘pass it’ [the resolution], but I promised I would let it be brought to the floor only if at least 60% of Dartmouth students oppose the war. I personally have no illusions that a Dartmouth SA resolution will stop the war, but the precedent for activism in conjunction with other Ivy League schools is a good one. This topic will undoubtedly come up when all 8 Student Body Presidents meet this weekend. I think I picked that number because more than 50% of SA is against the war, most kids are fairly liberal, and it would have been a mistake to grossly misrepresent the campus (if that’s what the numbers show).”
