Election Rules Violations — VI

The Daily Dartmouth now joins the Trustee election fray with a brand-new election rule violation: its weekly editorial bashes petition candidates Peter Robinson ’79 and Todd Zywicki ’88 before endorsing members of the official slate.

While we appreciate the passion for Dartmouth the two [petition candidates] have shown, they have done little to distinguish themselves from Rodgers or each other. Instead, it seems both have simply chosen to push the same hot buttons Rodgers pushed last year, but without Rodgers’ credentials or overarching vision. … We fully endorse Richard Lewis and Gregg Engles for the College’s two open trustee positions.

It’s really hard to argue that this isn’t prohibited electioneering. It certainly isn’t reporting, especially since the Daily D takes the very same positions as the College establishment-backed Alumni for a Strong Dartmouth, arguing that the petition candidates are somehow unqualified.
