Applebee’s Serves Child Alcohol

Apparently another institution is having even more issues with alcohol policy than Dartmouth: Applebee’s. A 15-month-old baby was accidentally served alcohol instead of juice at the restaurant chain’s Madison Heights, MI location. The child’s parents noticed he was acting strangely after drinking what they thought was apple juice. “He was saying hi and bye to the walls,” the mother said. “He eventually laid his head down on the table and we thought maybe he was just sleepy.” Turns out the waiter had poured the baby a cup of margarita mix instead – a ridiculous mix-up.

The child was rushed to the hospital and was found to be completely and legally drunk with a 0.10 blood alcohol level, above the acceptable level for a full-sized adult. Applebee’s has made a new policy in light of this event: juice will now be served strictly from single-serve containers. This case of a tipsy toddler makes Dartmouth’s frequent problem of serving underage freshmen a little more explicable.
